Polycarbonate Sheet: Solid or Corrugated?

Solid vs corrugated polycarbonate, Alfalux 4, 8 and 10 mm sheet colours, sizes and the factors that set the price.

Colourful and white sheets stacked on a rack

Polycarbonate sheet is a light, highly impact-resistant, light-transmitting plastic. It comes as solid (single layer) or corrugated (twin-wall with channels).

Solid Corrugated
Structure Single solid layer Chambers between two faces
Weight Heavier Very light
Insulation Low Better
Typical use Sign faces, protective panels Roofs, greenhouses, display boards

Solid

Our product page lists 2 to 15 mm thickness, 2050 × 3050 mm standard size, in clear, white, opal, bronze, smoke, blue and green. As an example of datasheet values, a typical manufacturer datasheet for UV-protected solid sheet lists light transmission (ASTM D1003) of 88 % at 3 mm, 85 % at 6 mm and 83 % at 10 mm, and notched Izod impact of 850 J/m. These belong to that product; ask for the datasheet of the brand you buy.

Corrugated

Stocked Alfalux sheets are 2.10 × 6 m: 4 mm in white, bronze and clear; 8 mm in white and bronze; 10 mm in bronze and clear. Stock varies by branch.

What sets the price

Thickness, UV protection (one or both faces), brand and warranty, colour, size and cutting waste, and quantity. For current prices and stock, contact your branch.
