What Is Acrylic Plexiglass?
Acrylic, commonly known as plexiglass, is a type of plastic with crystal clarity, suitable for all environments and easy to shape with heat. Also referred to as “plastic glass”, this material stands out for its aesthetic look and practical structure. Lighter than glass and 6 times more durable, plexiglass comes in different colour and thickness options and has a wide range of uses. Its transparency creates an airy, spacious feel, so it is often preferred in indoor and outdoor applications. Plexiglass sheets can be softened by heating at 90°C and above and take the desired shape; once cooled they keep their shape. For this reason, plexiglass can be shaped on a lathe and a workbench, and can also be cut on laser and CNC machines. A smooth, glossy edge can be obtained in laser cutting. Plexiglass sheets are produced in standard moulds of 135x200 cm, 150x300 cm and 205x305 cm, and can also be supplied in custom sizes as needed. Acrylic sheets are available in opaque, clear and fluorescent colours; both surfaces can be matt or glossy (frosted). Producible in various thicknesses from 2 mm to 50 mm, plexiglass has high scratch resistance and chemical resistance. It is also an ideal material for the lighting industry thanks to its UV light transmission and diffuser properties. Plexiglass sheets, which also resist outdoor weather conditions, keep their colour and strength for a long time. On the market, plexiglass is generally found as flat sheets 1.5 - 2.5 millimetres thick. The only disadvantage of plexiglass is its low resistance to burning.
High Transparency
Provides crystal clarity, high light transmission and an aesthetic look.
Heat Resistance and Formability:
Can be shaped easily by heating at 90°C and above.
Durability:
6 times more durable than glass and does not form sharp edges when broken.
Easy Machinability:
Suitable for machining on laser, CNC and various cutting machines.
Various Thickness and Colour Options
Produced in thicknesses from 2 mm to 50 mm and in opaque, clear and fluorescent colours.
