Light box LED module calculator

Estimate LED modules, total wattage and power supply from the width, height and depth of a light box; a 200 × 100 cm example is preset.

Dimensions

Dimension source

Height of the tallest capital letter.

Do not count spaces or punctuation.

Font weight

Stroke width of the letters; bold lettering needs more modules.

LED and installation

Inside depth of the letter or box. Module spacing grows with depth.

Voltage
Installation

Wide-angle (lens) modules can be spaced further apart.

Advanced settings

Added for failures and installation losses; 10% recommended.

Cable from the power supply to each feed line; cross-section and voltage drop are chosen from it.

Enter the dimensions to see the result.

What this page calculates

The tool estimates the module count, total wattage, recommended power supply, feed lines and cable cross-section of a light box from its inside width, height and return depth.

Method

  1. Module spacing a = depth × spacing ratio, within the model’s limits (12 cm × 1.5 = 18 cm, capped at 15 cm).
  2. Module count = ⌈width ÷ a⌉ × ⌈height ÷ a⌉, plus 10% spares.
  3. Required PSU power = total power × 1.25; feed lines = ⌈count ÷ chain limit⌉.

Example: 200 × 100 cm, 12 cm depth

Grid 14 × 7 = 98 modules (108 with spares), 147 W, required PSU power about 184 W, so 1 × 200 W, with 5 feed lines.

The face material and the brightness you want change the count. The result is an estimate; have a qualified electrician make the connections.

How it works

From dimensions to a material list in three steps.

  1. Choose the calculation

Channel letters, light box, or LED strip and neon. For letters, enter the size or upload your SVG drawing.

  2. Set the model and location

Choose the return depth, module or strip model and indoor/outdoor; the result updates instantly.

  3. Add the list to the basket

Add the module, power supply and cable list to the project basket and request one quote.

Frequently asked questions

How densely are modules laid in a light box?

Modules are laid as a grid on the back. Spacing grows with depth; with 160° lens modules it is about 1.5 times the depth, at most 15 cm.

How many watts does a 200 × 100 cm light box draw?

At 12 cm depth and 15 cm spacing, 14 × 7 = 98 modules. With 1.5 W modules that is 147 W; required PSU power about 184 W, so a 200 W power supply is recommended.

Modules or LED strip in a light box?

In deeper boxes (8 cm and more) wide-angle modules give even light with fewer parts. In slim boxes and for edge lighting, LED strip can be preferred; use the Strip & Neon tab.

Related products

  • LED Module

RGB LED modules (lens LEDs) are low-energy, long-life lighting elements that create different colour combinations from three primary colours (red, green, blue) to achieve the desired lighting effect. Their lens design spreads light over a wider area and provides intense illumination.

  • Indoor Power Supply

Power supplies are an indispensable source of supply for systems that differ by voltage and amperage. They are used in indoor advertising signs and wayfinding.

  • Outdoor Power Supply

Outdoor power supplies are used with strip, module and neon LEDs in LED strips, security cameras, homes, offices, workplaces, signs and wayfinding, and multi-purpose decor products. Their insulated structure makes them waterproof and suitable for long-term outdoor use.

  • LED Strip

LED strips are thin, long LED tapes that offer decorative and functional lighting solutions with their flexible structure. They are generally used indoors for shop window, furniture, shelf and cabinet lighting, and are also preferred outdoors with waterproof options.

  • Neon LED Strip

Neon LED strips combine the classic neon light effect with modern LED technology. Thanks to their flexible structure, various shapes and designs can be created.
