What Is PVC Foam Board (Forex)? Thicknesses, Sizes and Uses

PVC foam board (called Forex, or “dekota” in the Turkish sign trade) is a light, rigid sheet with a closed-cell foam structure. It is used for sign faces, display boards, exhibition stands and as a print substrate. Forex is originally a brand of 3A Composites, but the name is used for all PVC foam boards.

Thicknesses and typical use

The manufacturer lists FOREX classic from 1 to 19 mm: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15 and 19 mm. The uses below are typical and are not a load calculation.

Sizes

The manufacturer’s brochure lists these standard formats (mm): 1220 × 2440, 1220 × 2500, 1220 × 3050, 1560 × 3050 and 2030 × 3050. Not every size exists in every thickness. Our product page does not list sizes, so ask your branch for the brand, size and thickness in stock.

Printing and cutting

• Printing: UV flatbed directly on the board, printed adhesive vinyl mounted on it, or screen printing.
• Cutting: a sharp knife for thin sheets; saw, CNC or water jet for thick ones. 3A also lists hot bending and thermoforming.

Indoor or outdoor?

PVC foam board is common indoors. 3A states long-term outdoor use of up to 5 years for FOREX classic. Dark prints heat up in the sun and the board can warp, so support large panels and seal the edges.

The mirror PVC foam board is aluminium over black PVC foam, in silver or gold, and suits CNC cutting. The product page gives 2 years indoors and 4 years outdoors.
